Officers with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mark Eugene Pruitt, 47, on Friday in the death of Jason Adams, 29. Authorities said Adams, a firefighter with the East Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department, went to Pruitt’s home outside North Little Rock at about 5 a.m. Friday after Pruitt’s wife, Tonja Pruitt, reported that her husband was having a seizure.

Judge OKs expanding lawsuit over defunding Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood and three female patients sued the state after the Republican governor said in August he was ending the state’s contract with the organization. U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker issued a preliminary injunction Oct. 2 requiring the state to provide Medicaid funding for services for the three named plaintiffs, prompting Planned Parenthood to seek to expand the suit to include all of its present and future Medicaid patients in the state.

Court overturns man's rape conviction
In a 5-1 decision, a six-judge panel of the appellate court ordered a new trial for Ramon Perez, who was convicted in Lonoke County Circuit Court of three counts of rape, one count of aggravated assault on a family or household member and one count of second-degree sexual assault and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Board strikes 'unborn child' language from Arkansas rules
In a 12-6 vote Thursday, the panel decided that regulations governing abortion facilities should continue to use the phrase "termination of the pregnancy" to define abortion, but the change must be approved by the Legislature, which used the "unborn child" language in its legislation.

3 teens charged as adults in death of student in Fort Smith
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that one 15-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys are charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated robbery in the Saturday shooting death of 22-year-old Kaleb Watson.

Fayetteville man sentenced to 12 years for trafficking teen
Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Kenneth Elser announced Thursday that 23-year-old Gregory Gibson was sentenced in federal court for sex trafficking children. Gibson was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release and fined $4,900.

Milligan fined $400 for omissions in campaign finance reports
Milligan signed a settlement agreement Wednesday to resolve a complaint filed with the state Ethics Commission by Little Rock lawyer Matt Campbell. The settlement agreement states that the commission found probable cause for findings that Milligan failed to report certain contributions, expenditures and disposals of assets from his 2014 campaign for office in a timely manner.

Court: Lawyer whiffing at trial doesn't warrant new hearing
The court reversed a Benton County judge's order for a new sentencing hearing, remanded the case back to the lower court and asked that court to use a more objective test for whether attorney Steve Harper provided adequate representation for Brandon Lacy. Lacy was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of capital murder and aggravated robbery in the 2007 slaying of Randall Walker, who family members said was suffering from symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

In a 5-2 decision, the court rejected Ramon Trujillo’s argument that a Benton County circuit judge improperly set a $300,000 cash-only bond after Trujillo was arrested for violating a no-contact order that was a condition of his previous release on a $25,000 bond in a domestic battery case.

Sweatpants ban sags in Arkansas Legislature
The Arkansas Legislative Council, which meets when the Legislature isn't in session, rejected the proposal by Republican Sen. Jimmy Hickey of Texarkana to require its members to wear "business casual" clothing at its meets. Hickey's proposal didn't define business casual, but said it wouldn't include jeans, T-shirts, sweatpants or sweatshirts.
