A three-judge panel of the appellate court reversed Jeremy Edward Whalen’s conviction of driving while intoxicated, first offense, and dismissed the case against him because his arrest stemmed from the illegal checkpoint.

The appellate court ruled in favor of Ana Martinez, who was fired from Yours Truly Consignment Shoppe in Conway in March. Martinez filed an appeal after the state Board of Review ruled that she was not entitled to unemployment benefits because she was fired for misconduct.

Owner of companies pleads not guilty to charges
Ted Suhl, 50, of Warm Springs pleaded pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court in Little Rock to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and honest services fraud, three counts of honest services fraud, one count of bribery involving federal funds and one count of interstate travel in aid of bribery.

Ethics Commission sets hearing on Milligan complaint
The complaint, filed Aug. 20 by Little Rock lawyer and liberal blogger Matt Campbell, alleges that Milligan committed multiple ethics violations while running for and since being elected to his current office. An attorney for Milligan has said Campbell’s complaint is full of factual errors and erroneous legal conclusions.

Accused killer's wife describes plot to kidnap real estate agent
Crystal Lowery, 42, took the stand on the second day of testimony in Lewis’ trial in Pulaski County Circuit Court on charges of capital murder and kidnapping. Lewis, 35, is accused of abducting and killing Carter, 50, whose body was found in a shallow grave at a concrete plant in Pulaski County on Sept. 30, 2014, five days after she disappeared.

Supreme Court declines to consider reviving 12-week abortion ban
Without comment, the nation’s top court on Tuesday rejected Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge’s request that the court review the Arkansas Human Heartbeat Protection Act of 2013 and overturn a lower-court ruling that struck down most of the law.
